Anybody taking bets on how long this will actually last?
In comments to this post of Jessica's, I noted that, even though R and I have a home office, I usually work at the dining room table because it's a large clean surface. But now, thanks to R who put together a bookshelf for me (and of course Small Boy who helped), I can see the top of my desk again. Why, I'm typing this post at my desk even as we speak.
Check it out:
Order at last! For now, at least.
(The keen-eyed among you will notice, however, that we still haven't addressed that light issue. But we have hallway lights now...)

Lighting is a huge debate between Jon and me. He was raised in a cave. My mother, who grew up in Texas and raised me in the Midwest, raised us around those "solar, sun replicating" lamps. whatever they were, they were damn bright. Now I can't deal with the lighting situation in our apt - the lack thereof I mean. Jon, however, swears he goes blind with migraines when I switch on the lamps. So, i have one behind "my spot" on the couch, and he and I sit very far apart.
That's a funny idea to take a picture of your writing space. Mine is so cluttered! We have an antique workbench over 100 years old and that's my desk these days. It's overflowing with junk, cd's and paper scraps. To top it off I'm stuck next to the fridge in the kitchen (no laptop).
Yay to a new space! I bet you'll still sit at the table out of habit though :)
Best of luck keeping it clean! For me clearing off my desk happens so rarely that when it does, I have a great sense of accomplishment and laze off for a week.
The only lamps in our apartment are Christmas gifts from my boyfriend's mother. They're wonderful, but now we can't get anything from Ikea because in comparison it just looks... well, sad.
Jessica - actually R and I agree on the lighting issue: nice and bright. We're just too lazy/cheap to get around to the last final touches. And our office gets so much natural sunlight that it's even easier to slack off. Oh, and I have one of those Phillips daylight simulators to ward off the winter depression - very ugly but super bright!
misschrisc - until yesterday I was too ashamed to take a picture of my desk! Clutter doesn't begin to describe it. And can I say outdated unopened mail??? Ack!
unswiss miss - last night I just stood in the doorway of our office and gazed at my desk as if it were a sleeping child. So lovely! We'll see if I can keep it clean...
