Somebody found my blog after searching for "p*ct*re of b0y wear*ng di*per$".

Shudder.

Needless to say I've been deleting some ph0t0s.

How do you find out what people have searched for? I've been blogging for a while, but I'm still totally stupid about these things :)

i have the same question as rei.

also, i shudder when i see people posting photos of their children (playing, sleeping, etc.) on their blogs. i have only posted 1 photo of my child and it is only her back and it is pretty far away. there are enough freaks out there who get off on any little thing. you do have to be careful.

Hi Rei and April welcome! I use Statcounter which has an option to see what keyword searches people have used to click through to your blog. I would imagine Site Meter, another popular one, has the same feature. I'll ask my husband to maybe post a better answer - he's my tech support and does the techy stuff for my blog - I just provide content!

The pictures of Small Boy were all, I assumed, harmless (certainly always fully dressed!)but you're right April, people can be creepy. So no more pictures of my little man - too bad, he's about to get his first haircut and I was going to do a before and after. Oh well. I'll have to paint a picture with words.

Rei - as the techie of the family I can pick-up your question.

There is a number of so called "stat counters" where one is adding some lines into the blog layout and everytime a person is accessing the blog it will increase a counter and store some basic information like where the person came from. Most internet sites do that as well to find out who visits them and what their users were looking at. To see then who visited, where they came from, what they were looking at and where they went afterwards one has a website where one can login and see these kind of statistics.

With the feature to see where they came from one can also see what keywords they were searching for if they come straight from google or from another search tool. Hence then the shudder in seeing some of these keywords.

If you are interested in adding a counter I find

www.statcounter.com

not a bad one (and free too).

If you need some help translating their techie description into english that a normal person (whatever THAT might be) understands let me know ;-)

cheers

Oh - and personally I would find it a shame if you wouldn't post any pictures any more of SB just because of some creeps. Once they see that the pictures are just what they are - of a small boy fully dressed - they will look somewhere else.

That is pretty creepy, but there are creeps everywhere, I guess. I get searches sometimes for "German boys" and things like that.

I use Site Meter and it gives you an awful lot of information about who visits.

Hi there,
very interesting for me, as I have a lot of pictures of my kids up on the net.
It certainly makes me shudder that there's creeps like that around but I do want to agree with and believe your husband and hope that those creeps will look elsewhere when they discover that those little ones are fully dressed.
I'd hate for my family overseas to miss out on this major part of their 'seeing the kids grow'.
thanks for all the useful info.

thanks for the technical breakdown. i understood it quite well and have sitemeter, so i have to look into that.

as for posting kiddie photos, i guess it's a matter of personal decision. for photos of my daughter, i subscribe to ofoto.com. i can post entire photo albums of just her and share those albums with all friends and family (and they don't have to be members to view them). they are simply sent an e-mail notification. this way no strangers have photos of my daughter. (i fully admit that living in the u.s.a. has made me extremely paranoid about these things).

Welcome and Hi Franzie.

I hate to think of creepy people running across pictures of Small Boy, even though they are all harmless. I took a lot of totally harmless pictures down while I take some time to think dispassionately about how I feel about having pictures up. I think, after time, I will probably end up posting pictures again - he's just TOO CUTE to resist.

Since I blog anonymously this isn't a way for friends to keep up with us, but I still like posting the pictures and probably will start up again at some point.

But it's interesting to see how we all reacted to this.
