Over before it started

Remember this "match made in heaven?" Didn't last long.

No idea what you think of Operation Puerto, but I have to share my 2 cents - I hope the Italians actually attempt to get to the bottom of things this time. Seems horribly unfair for Ulle to be the only star punished for the whole affair, when it's a pretty good bet that most, if not all, the top riders dope. Either get them all or leave them all alone - it's just unfair that some riders get off because of lax national oversight.

I think there needs to be better uniform testing by the UCI or even the olympic committee rather than national federations - apparantly many people think one reason the French cyclists have been so weak for the past decade is the rigorous French national testing compared to other countries. Apparantly Switzerland tests pretty tough which is why Phonak riders keep getting nailed, too. Back in the day everybody turned a blind eye and in a bizarre sort of way that was almost more fair than the current mess.

And Ullrich - don't get me going on his wasted brilliance.

I remember your Elegy to the Fallen Hero. It was absolutely brilliant and insightful and was part of what got me to add your blog to my regular reading list. (I have to bite my tongue whenever you drool over Lance though, sorry. Erik Zabel's my idol!)

Lance and Zabel are apples and oranges, though. Lance could never beat Erik in a pack spring in a million years, and Zabel's not a guy who's going to win a three-week Tour. Personally, I think in the end Zabel got screwed out of one more green points jersey because Ullrich wasn't going to put up with Telkom/T-Mobile expending so much energy on giving him stage wins in those early flat days. Just my two cents. I was always a big Mario Cippolini fan too.

But Lance has got that whole cancer survivor (my dad died of cancer)/IVF daddy thing going for him. A girl like me has to love the IVF daddies, right? ;-)

Agreed on all points, but I'm a one-guy kind of gal. So Zabel it is, and no one else. Nevertheless... *bows to cancer & IVF* =)
