Because things haven't sucked enough lately

Oh no! Post-partum periods suck big time. I hope you're not too cramped up or hormonally exhausted. Try to take it easy, if you can (har, har, I hear you think).

Ugh, that does suck. I'm sorry that you're having such a rough time.

We seem to be on the same page a lot of the time.

It would be wise not to take a medication like Paxil while breastfeeding your baby. If you really need this medication then it would be better to switch to formula. You need to weigh the benefits against the risks.

Malaika - my pediatrician and my OB and the post-partum specialist I saw all cleared me to take Paxil while breast-feeding. Several studies in peer-reviewed journals indicate Paxil as safe during breast-feeding. Paxil is actually the second choice drug while breast-feeding; Zoloft ranks a bit better and is the first choice drug but I respond very well to Paxil with no side-effects and so for me Paxil is the better choice. Abruptly weaning can actually contribute to/exacerbate PPD due to sudden hormone shifts, plus the sudden loss of forced bonding moments while in the middle of PPD can be risky for mother-baby bonding, so switching to formula while in the throes of serious PPD is also a risky choice. As you say, one has to weigh risks ad benefits. Sudden weaning during PPD IS NOT a risk-free choice. This is something every mother must discuss in detail with her medical team
